Silicon Cape

It is with great enthusiasm that I will be attending the launch of the Silicon Cape initiative early next month.

I' m not there for the food, nor the company (although I have no doubt they will be more than engaging). Nope, I am there to support what I believe is potentially one of the most important shifts in the collective consciousness of Cape IT and Web Professionals. A meeting of minds that was hinted at when CITI began, but never took off the way I believe this can.

Justin Stanford (of E-SET fame) and Vinny Lingham have taken a bold step in creating a community that exists online with the intention of pooling the minds of online professionals. It's important in the same way that the new studios being built near Somerset West are important to the burgeoning film industry in South Africa.

May it bring big business to the Cape. May it become the first port-of-call for those wishing to identify the talent that you and I see every day.

Most importantly though... may it reign for many years.

Carl Niehaus can fuck off to jail

Yet another ANC official is given a slap on the wrist. (http://blogs.thetimes.co.za/hartley/2009/02/13/gwede-mantashe-statement-on-carl-niehaus-full-text/)

I do not understand this any more.

Fraud is a criminal offense, and the ANC is 'trying to find an alternative role' for Niehaus. Why is he not being sent to jail for fraud?

Travelgate: Those guilty were 'fired' having committed fraud and simply moved to different positions.

Clearly the ANC is quite happy to have criminals in their ranks. Little wonder that impoverished South Africans have no respect for the law.

Goverment fraudsters should be locked up and banned from entering politics for life, as they lack the character to lead.

Why, as a taxpayer, should I acknowledge lawmakers that are guilty of contravening the very laws they create and pretend to enforce.
